Set Your Calendars

To keep your grill in top shape, follow this cleaning schedule:

  • Initial Cleaning after Installation is recommended after it is installed.
  • Monthly Interior Cleaning is recommended a minimum once a month and give the grill a deep interior clean at least once a year.
  • Exterior Stainless Steel Cleaning is recommended a minimum once a month.
  • Rust, Surface Discoloration or Stainless Steel Polishing as needed.

Stainless Steel Polishing

To achieve a professional shine on your grill’s exterior, follow these steps:

  1. After cleaning and drying the surface, spray stainless steel cleaner and polish onto one side of a microfiber towel.
  2. Wipe in the direction of the grain of the metal, then buff with the dry side of the towel for a brilliant shine.

Initial Cleaning After Installation

Once your Summerset grill is installed, it’s important to give it an initial cleaning to remove any protective plastic and oils used during manufacturing:

  • Remove protective plastic from the exterior as soon as possible.
  • Clean the exterior stainless steel using a stainless steel cleaner from Weiman, Bar Keepers Friend or Zep.
  • Turn on the main burners for 10 minutes to burn off any production oils inside the grill.

It’s also recommended to clean the exterior regularly and give the grill a deep interior clean at least once a year.

Exterior Stainless Steel Cleaning

To keep your grill looking shiny and new, follow these steps for cleaning the exterior stainless steel:

  1. Fill a bucket with warm water and soap (Dawn or Simple Green).
  2. Use a microfiber towel or sponge to wipe down the surface, always following the grain of the metal.
  3. Rinse with clean water and dry with a microfiber towel.
  4. Apply a quality stainless steel cleaner or polish like from Bar Keepers Friend to protect the surface from discoloration.

For extra protection, consider covering your grill with a grill cover when not in use.

Monthly Interior Cleaning

Regular monthly cleaning is key to maintaining your grill’s performance. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn the grill on high for 15 minutes with the hood closed. This helps break down any grease and food residue.
  2. After allowing the grill to cool for 90 minutes, remove the cooking grates and soak them in warm water with Simple Green or Dawn to remove grime.
  3. Scrape the drip tray and spray with Simple Green before hosing it off.
  4. Clean the briquette tray, interior walls, and burners with a stainless steel brush.
  5. Use a shop vac to remove residue from the bottom basin of the grill. If desired, you can also hose out the inside of the grill, but be sure to let it dry completely before reinstalling the parts.

Rust Prevention and Removal

Rust on stainless steel may appear as brown spots due to oxidation. Here’s how to clean and prevent rust:

  • Regularly clean the surface with a stainless steel cleaner to prevent rust from forming.
  • If you do spot rust, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 2 cups of water and rub it on the rust spots using a toothbrush, going with the grain of the metal. For persistent stains, add vinegar to create a paste, then wipe the area clean.
