Step 2: Calculating Yards

When planning a landscaping or construction project, knowing how much material to order is essential.  This guide will help you make those calculations based on your project’s dimensions.

  1. Determine the Square Footage of your project area (length x width).
  2. Choose the Depth of material you’ll need (e.g., 2 inches of mulch or 6 inches of stone).
  3. Use the chart to find the multiplier based on the depth you chose.
  4. Multiply the Square Footage by the Multiplier to get the total cubic yards of material required.
    • Round up the result to the nearest whole number to ensure you have enough material for your project.

Example:

  • If you need 8 inches of Crushed Stone for 400 sq. ft., multiply 400 by 0.025, which equals 10 yards.
  • If you need 1 inch of Dense Grade for 500 sq. ft., multiply 500 by 0.003, which equals 1.5 yards.
  • If you need 2 inches of Black Mulch for 1,000 sq. ft., multiply 1,000 by 0.006, which equals 6 yards.
  • If you need 6 inches of Mason Sand for 760 sq. ft., multiply 760 by 0.019, which equals 14.5 yards.

Important Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Material Purity: Different materials, like stone and mulch, can’t be delivered together to avoid contamination.
  • Delivery Costs: Delivery prices vary based on your distance from Old Station Supply.
  • Order Minimums: We have a minimum delivery requirement of 2 yards.
